I am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced

By: Nujood Ali, with Delphine Minoui, translated by Linda Coverdale. 2010

This is the true story of a remarkable 10 year-old Yemeni girl who has become an international hero for her brave resistance to child marriage. She was married off by her impoverished family at age 10, raped and beaten by her husband and somehow found the courage to escape, find her way to a courthouse and with the help of an activist lawyer, sympathetic judge and international press, she divorced her husband. Nujood’s courageous defiance of both Yemini customs and her own family is spellbinding. Nujood’s victory has incited change in other Middle Eastern countries where this injustice is suffered by all too many girls around the world.
